The day has finally come! After months of house hunting in Dallas, Texas, getting outbid THREE times, finding a fixer upper, buying a fixer upper, hiring a contractor, selecting materials and finishes, moving in, and furnishing a newly-renovated home—our kitchen remodel reveal is here. If you’ve been following along with me and Cody’s home buying story, you know it was not an easy process for us—but most of the hard work is finished, and we’re ready to share the final product!
A quick note on our house hunt over the summer: We’d see a house we liked online, go in for a tour, put in an offer, and be outbid by thousands of dollars a day later. The good houses went on the market and closed almost immediately way over the asking price. So we had to adjust our expectations on how our first home purchase was going to work. Since the housing market is so competitive in Dallas right now, we came to the conclusion that to purchase a house in our price range (and have it look the way we wanted) we would have to take on a fixer upper.
When we first walked into this house, my first inclination was to RUN back to the car. This house was ugly, you guys. There’s no gentle way of putting it. Brown walls, grey brick-look floors, popcorn ceilings, dated cabinets, and a closed-off kitchen. The only thing we really liked about the house was the potential. Everything else had to go.
And everything did go. Once we closed on the house, within five weeks, the house went from old and dingy to new and bright. The space is unrecognizable.
At the very end of this post, I’ve listed out the scope of work for the kitchen remodel, which is just a small part of what we’ve done to the house. We also remodeled two bathrooms, the master bedroom, and the living room—those reveals will be coming over the next month.
