You’ve heard of SheIn—the online retailer with a little bit of a reputation for being difficult when it comes to returns and low, low, low when it comes to quality. So why are so many bloggers always sporting clothes from SheIn? I’ve been working on today’s post, a 100% honest SheIn review, for over a month now in order to answer this question as accurately as possible. I purchased three items from SheIn.com with my own money and am going to walk you through the experience, including my opinion on the quality of the items and the returns process, from start to finish.
HONEST SHEIN REVIEW | SHIPPING, QUALITY, AND RETURNS
I placed an order for two dresses (here and here) and one t-shirt from SheIn on 2/20/18. Within 10 minutes of making my purchase, I received an email from SheIn with payment confirmation, my shipping address, and instructions on how to access my account to check on the order status at any time. Good start!
I went back to check on my order on 2/23/2018, and the status had changed to from “Processing” to “Shipped”. I was pretty pleased with that turnaround time. On the SheIn website, it says standard US shipping takes 6-8 business days. There is also an express-shipping option that costs about $13, but for my experiment, I just did standard shipping. I received my package on 3/5/2018, one day outside of the 6-8 business days window. Not great, but not terrible, either.
Then, I tried on all of the items. I didn’t steam or iron any of the clothing in the photos below so you can see how they came out of the package.
HONEST SHEIN REVIEW – DRESS #1
I REALLY like the look of this blue striped dress. The vertical lines are elongating, and the lace-up neckline is sexy and flattering. This is a dress I would wear to a bridal shower or an outdoor wedding this summer.
The dress was pretty staticky when I took it out of the bag, so I rubbed dryer sheets across the fabric’s surface, and that seemed to help. There was also a little bit of fraying of the fabric up near the neckline (you can see it if you look closely at the photo above). The dress is 100% polyester, and it felt like 100% polyester. If you like luxe fabrics, this dress probably isn’t for you. However, for $29, I personally don’t have an issue with the fabric.
HONEST SHEIN REVIEW – DRESS #2
Full disclosure: I already owned this dress in black when I purchased it online for this experiment. I’ve been meaning to pick up the red version for months since I love the black option so much. I wear it all the time. This weekend, I wore this red dress on Friday night paired with black jeans for date night and on Saturday paired with white jeans for brunch. If you’re on the tall side, you can get away with wearing this dress with or without pants, which makes it super versatile.
This dress is great, so naturally, it sold out between when I got it last week and today. A bunch of SheIn’s summery dresses are out of stock right now, but here, here, and here are a few cute off-the-shoulder options.
HONEST SHEIN REVIEW – T-SHIRT
This white tee is cute but forgettable. No big issues stood out to me on the shirt. It would be cute with jeans and a light sweater this spring! But since I’m not totally in love with it, I’ve decided to return it.
The returns process has been surprisingly easy. I was expecting to have a pay some sort of fee or have some push back from the site. However, I just went in to my account and clicked “Return Item”. I was then able to select which piece I wanted to return, and they provided a shipping label right on the screen, which I printed off and affixed to my return parcel. They ask that you include your order number somewhere in the return package, so I just placed the packing slip I received with my order in the return. It was pretty simple!
HONEST SHEIN REVIEW – BUYING TIP #1:
Each product page on the SheIn website includes a description of the item you’re considering. Read that description carefully, especially the material and fabric sections. If the item made from 100% polyester (and a lot of the clothing from SheIn is 100% polyester), that means it’s going to be thin and wrinkle easily. If I find something on SheIn that I *really* like and it’s made from 100% polyester, I always buy it in black OR a print if those are options. Black is by far the most forgiving color when it comes to wrinkles.
Also, the fabric section of the description specifically says whether or not a garment has any stretch. If it says the fabric has no stretch, that means the fabric has NO stretch. Look at the silhouette of the item, and determine the right size for you.
HONEST SHEIN REVIEW – BUYING TIP #2:
Pay close attention to customer reviews. The reviews section on the SheIn site even has an area where customers can input their measurements, which is super helpful if you’re trying to see how something fits. There are also a solid amount of real customer photos on the product pages, so look at those before making a purchase, too. If every single review says a dress is really short or a blouse feels really cheap, then the dress is probably really short and the blouse is probably really cheap.
If most of the reviews are bad on an item, no matter how cute it looks on the model, walk away.
HONEST SHEIN REVIEW – BUYING TIP #3:
When in doubt, size up.
HONEST SHEIN REVIEW – BUYING TIP #4:
When you’re shopping at SheIn, set realistic expectations. Are the items I’ve received from SheIn.com the most high-quality pieces I have in my closet? No. But I really like most of the clothing I have there because I took the time to pay attention to sizing and read the descriptions and customer reviews.
HONEST SHEIN REVIEW – BUYING TIP #5:
Purchase casual items you know you’re going to like. If you’re going on a long beach vacation and want a bunch of cute, casual tops to throw on with your denim shorts, SheIn is a good place to go. When I went to Florida last summer, I knew I’d be spending most of my days in a wet swimsuit. I picked up a few super casual tops from SheIn that I knew would work well on the beach. I didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on items from more expensive retailers since I knew they might get wet. SheIn was a great solution.
HONEST SHEIN REVIEW – BUYING TIP #6:
Be prepared to use your steamer or iron. Coming out of the package, your items are going to be pretty wrinkled. Be ready to do some heavy steaming before wearing your SheIn items out.
