I recently did a poll on Instagram Stories, where I asked all of you how long it takes to complete your everyday makeup routine for work. The overwhelming majority said it takes less than 10 minutes to apply a full face that’s ready to head out the door and take on the workday. On the same poll, I also asked whether or not it would be helpful to share my everyday makeup routine, which takes less than four minutes to complete from start to finish. And most of you all said yes! So today, I want to share the products and process I use during my everyday makeup routine for work.
EVERYDAY MAKEUP ROUTINE FOR WORK IN UNDER FOUR MINUTES
EVERYDAY MAKEUP ROUTINE FOR WORK – STEP ONE: MASCARA
I have a love/hate relationship with mascara. I have to use a waterproof mascara since I wear contacts and need drops periodically throughout the day, but I hate scrubbing at my eyes in the evenings in attempts to get the gunk off of my lashes. So after a lot of trial and error, I’ve found this mascara with this eyelash curler work well for my needs. I have no reservations about investing in expensive makeup, but I’ve used pricey, designer mascaras in the past and really can’t tell a noticeable difference. The $5 stuff works well for my eyes, doesn’t smear easily, and comes off at night with wipes.
I spend about 10 seconds curling my lashes (10 seconds per eye), and then apply 4-6 swipes of the mascara per eye.
EVERYDAY MAKEUP ROUTINE FOR WORK – STEP TWO: FOUNDATION
Foundation is something I’ll always invest in since it’s what creates a smooth, fresh-looking canvas. I use this foundation with this brush. I’ll do one pump of the foundation on to the side of my hand, dip the brush in the liquid, and dab all over my face. I dab away until there’s an even layer of foundation all over my face and any spottiness, splotches, and blemishes are covered. Usually, I’ll do an extra half pump and go through dab process again for a little bit of extra coverage.
EVERYDAY MAKEUP ROUTINE FOR WORK – STEP THREE: CONCEALER
Next, I apply my concealer over my foundation. This is the concealer I use. To apply, I’ll dab the applicator two-three times under my eyes. I’ll then use my index finder to tap the concealer into my skin. It brightens everything up around my eyes and helps with dark circles.
EVERYDAY MAKEUP ROUTINE FOR WORK – STEP FOUR: BRONZER
Bronzer is the next step! I use this bronzer with this brush. I apply the bronzer directly under my cheekbone to give my face some definition. To make sure I’m applying the bronzer in the right place, I’ll suck in my cheeks (like a fish) and apply where the dimple is, working my way up. I don’t use much bronzer—just enough so you can see a little shadow under the cheekbones.
EVERYDAY MAKEUP ROUTINE FOR WORK – STEP FIVE: HIGHLIGHER
Honestly, I don’t always use highlighter. Some days I’ll swipe some highlighter on my cheekbones and other days I’m just like “meh” and skip it. When I do use a highlighter, I use this product (COLOR: Jubilation) with this brush. I apply it directly on my cheekbones above the bronzer. Then, I’ll swipe a brush where the bronzer and highlighter meet a couple of times to gently blend everything together.
EVERYDAY MAKEUP ROUTINE FOR WORK – STEP SIX: TINTED LIP BALM
My tinted lip balm is my favorite beauty product of all time. I use this hydrating tinted lip balm by Benefit (COLOR: Posiebalm in summer, Benebalm in winter). I do not wear lipstick, especially not at work, so I love that this product keeps my lips hydrated and nice and pink/red. The color is subtle (perfect for a professional environment), but it’s definitely there. ChapStick actually has a great affordable version of this product in a bunch of colors. You can find it here for $5.
And that’s it! Six products and a few minutes is all it takes to create a quick everyday makeup routine for work. The last thing I want to mention is what I use to take my makeup off at the end of the day, because that’s just important as the products you use to put it on. Here are the products in my skincare routine:
